Oct. 5-06 Turkey Roost
Remember the feral turkeys? The youngster somehow managed to fly to the top deck of out new house but on hearing us approach, it became flustered and jumped/flew/flapped landing close to the top of branches of of a nearby thirty foot Alder. He was dumbstruck (not an unusual thing for a turkey) and obviously had no idea how to get down. Mother turkey clucked and chortled for hours but he dared not move. We finally quit our building chores and left the new house. In the morning we checked. No dead carcass at the base of the tree greeted us. I would have liked to watched how he managed the descent as the branches were very slim and had little ability to support the weight of the turkey.
