Nov 25-07 Raven Overhead
Ravens are the largest members of the corvidae family which also includes crows, Magpies, Bluejays, Jackdaws, Rooks, Nutcrackers, and several others. They can grow to the size of a large hawk, and have a wingspan: 1.2 - 1.5 meters (about 50-60 inches).
When flying overhead, aside from the size difference, you can tell a Raven from a Crow by the Raven's wedge shaped tail as opposed to the Crow's more rounded shape.
On Malcolm Island, Ravens and Crows are often be found living side by side in the same areas. In more populated regions, where there's a choice, Ravens prefer wilder areas while crows will live quite close to urban development.
