June 19-09 Echo Bay Elementary
The Echo Bay School closed at the end of June 2008. It had existed since 1923 and was an important part of the community life of the whole area. Families could move to the region and have their children attend a local school. Mostly the students came by boat which by itself has left indelible and colourful memories for parents and students. The School is sadly missed. Sointula has benefitted from the closure as several new families moved here to boost the numbers attending A. J. Elliot Elementary.
