This photo was taken at a rest stop in Nimpkish Valley on a trip down island. Like all jays, its calls are varied and include rattling and guttural sounds as diverse as its cousins, Ravens and Crows. These jays can imitate the cry of the Red-tailed Hawk, which can cause other birds and small mammals to quickly flee an area leaving the jays free to enjoy feed without interruption. They are very bold and very smart.
