June 28-06 Eaglewing
Our new boat. Eaglewing is a Gulf 32. Much smaller than our previous boat but robust for cruising the north coast and most importantly designed by Bill Garden.
June 26-06 Crystal Garden
Yesterday Jim was at the opening of the Crystal Garden restoration and BC Experience.
June 27-06 Gillnet
All over Sointula, nets are being checked and mended in preparation for the fishing season.

Forms for the next concrete pour are placed around the perimeter of the foundation walls.

Many boats will get spruced up on one of the marine ways in Sointula before Summer's end.
June 16-06 Facepaint
Celebrating Juhannus. Our post office put on an early solstice celebration during this weekend. This Midsummer celebration is also Finland's Flag Day. Sointula does not let the tradition die.
June 16-06 Foxglove
Foxglove is a common roadside plant on Malcolm Island and throughout coastal British Columbia. First year growth has been mistaken for Comfrey with fatal results.

East deck view. The blue is a waterproof barrier called Blueskin. This side of the house will take the brunt of most winter storms.

Close to the cabin sits the outhouse which is definitely in better repair. a classic!
Jun 6-06 Columbines
In a thicket of blackberries, delicate columbines bloom. Summer is definitely on its way.
June 8-06 Thimbleberries
The thimbleberries wll soon be bright red. This year will be a good crop. I am looking forward to morning walks picking my way through berryland. Salmon berries, huckleberries, blackberries and salal berries are native to the island and grow in abundance.
