Helen Johnstone on the right was the guest artist at Artopia 2007. Helen was born in Brantford, Ontario in 1920 and studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. Among her well known instructors were Franklin Carmichael, from the Group of Seven, Rowley Murphy, a naval war artist and Immanuel Hahn, sculptor of the Blue Nose depicted on the Canadian dime.

An Associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Helen is a gold award winner for oils in an exhibition in Toronto, first prize winner in a Federation of Canadian Artists watercolour exhibit held in Vancouver and four People’s Choice awards. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals in Ontario and British Columbia. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections in several countries around the world.

Although Helen prefers painting with oils, she is equally expressive using watercolours. She lives by the water in Sointula, on Malcolm Island, British Columbia.
