This is the last photo of the year. We hope for all that the next one brings stability and creativity. Gaia requires our best efforts.
Dec 19-08 Floor Prep
Eventually, this will be our living room. Even though it is cold and icy outside, the low sun angle is warming the room with no additional heat needed. Passive solar heating works! In the Summer, the sun angle is much higher and the room is shaded by the eaves keeping the room cool.

Dec 18-08 Defying Gravity
As the snow started to slip off our steep, metal roof, the melting icy snow and icicles curved under the eaves. The existing icicles seemed to defy gravity while the newly created ones obeyed the law.
Dec 18-08 Sointula & Mt. Stephens
Mt. Stephens looms over Sointula as we leave Port McNeill Ferry dock.
Dec 17-08 Sointula Santa
A lone pole sports a Christmas Santa in Rough Bay on a snowy, December day.
Dec 17-08 Sointula
A view of Sointula from Rough Bay looks as cold as it is. This is cold for us, that is and positively Springlike for those to the East of us.
Dec 17-08 Ferry Dock
An early morning photo taken from our east deck during the snowfall. We can clearly see the snow in Hyde Creek across the Broughton Strait.
Dec 17-08 Blue wall
We are finishing up the living room. Here we are masking off the walls to prep the floor.

The sunrises are later and later now even with the change back to standard time. It made a big difference at first but the lengthening night seems to snowball this time of year.
Nov 18-08 Smart greedy crows
These crows stick close to the vehicles in the Port McNeill ferry lineup. They are awaiting a free handout from gullible humans like me. Crows strategize their optimal location based on the repeated trajectories of snacks flung toward an often growing competetive murder of crows. These corvid family birds definitely analyze and remember.
Nov 18-08 Port McNeill Ferry
Here, the ferry from Alert Bay is sailing toward the Port McNeill Ferry docks. After the vehicles and foot passengers disembark, the passengers and vehicles bound for Sointula immediately board for the 20-25 minute crossing. There are approximately 7 sailings to Sointula each day.
