Sept-4-09 Summer in the paddock
The property behind our house became a wired grazing area this summer. Here, Summer the horse, is happily mowing down the grasses but leaving the alder saplings.
Aug 28-09 Marble River
We decided to take a day trip on Vancouver Island. A short ride on the ferry from Sointula found us taking us on the road to Port Alice. This road passes by the beautiful Marble River.
The Marble River Marble River Provincial Park is located on the North Island, 15 Km south of Port Hardy at the junction of Rupert Inlet, Holberg Inlet, Quatsino Sound and Neroutsos Inlet. The river flows through a shallow canyon bordered by forest covered benchlands. The park protects an eagle nesting habitat and a steelhead fishery. It is also an important waterfowl habitat. Black bears are often seen in the park, especially during salmon spawning season. This is a gorgeous area- well worth a visit.

This is a view from the other side of the road looking toward the Hatchery.
Aug 21-09 Vilen Farm
Abu, the grey horse in the foreground is a Polish Arab. Our granddaughter was delighted to ride and help groom him during a visit.
Aug 17-09 On ViIlage Island
The village is very grown over this year. Masses of berries, nettles and bushes bearing abundant rosehips nearly block the way through to the old fallen pole. Other, nearly gone poles could not be seen through the angles of vegetation.
Aug 17-09 Mamaliakulla
Reminders of the past were found directly below the old Village. We were first here in 1971 when the dock was red, the grounds cleared and at least one house was occupied.
Aug 17-09 Pole 2
Not much is left of the memorial pole which fell a few years ago. We have photos of our children standing nest to this pole in its upright position during the early 80's. The pole will soon be unrecognizable as it slowly returns to the earth.
Aug17-09 Pole
This is the Wolf part of the pole-not the original top carving. The top was broken off during a storm and has been gone for many years.
